"COUNCIL FOR A PARLIAMENT OF THE WORLD'S RELIGIONS"
August 16, 2006
Statement of the Council for a Parliament of the World's Religions on the Current Conflict in the Middle East
"Peace is at once the destination and the path. Hatred is never ended by hatred but only by mutual understanding and regard. These convictions come from the deepest beliefs of the world’s religious and spiritual communities.

We, members of the Board of Trustees of the Council for a Parliament of the World's Religions, grieve at the continuing violence and the loss of life and civilian infrastructure and damage to the earth in Lebanon, Israel and Palestine. We mourn the many deaths that have occurred and pray that the violence may end soon. All human lives are sacred and must be respected. In an increasingly interdependent world, the well-being of all peoples is interconnected. In such a world, the smallest unit of survival is indeed the whole human family.

We are convinced that real security cannot be achieved by war and violence, but only by a respect for human rights and by a spirit of cooperation and tolerance.

THE WILL TO GOOD  - "World Goodwill"                        G

"Many people, deeply concerned at the trend of human affairs, are interested in finding new and practical ways of contributing to the solution of world problems. But they do not know with whom to ally themselves or what to do. They feel futile as individuals and have no faith in stereotyped old-age campaigns, or newfangled "isms and cults". Something must be provided, based upon the essential human qualities of love and understanding, and sufficiently fundamental to give promise of constructive effects. To this end the most contagious human quality which can be organised and made effective is goodwill. Men and women of goodwill are potentially the richest asset in any nation and can have tremendous influence on public opinion when properly associated and focussed.

To bring in the new day and the human well-being which is our heritage, we do not need a further appraisal of the world condition based on a particular ideology or point of view. Rather, we need a deeper sense of reality based on spiritual values and a new perception of humanity as a unit of divine life within an ordered and purposive universe. There are six recognitions that can provide a basis for this deeper understanding:

One: Humanity is not following a haphazard or uncharted course -- there is a Plan. This Plan has always existed and is part of the greater design of the Cosmos. The Plan has worked out through the evolutionary developments of the past and because of the special impetus given it from time to time by the great leaders, teachers and intuitives of the human race.  ........."

"INTERNATIONAL CAMPAIGN FOR TIBET"                G

The International Campaign for Tibet (ICT) works to promote human rights and democratic freedoms for the people of Tibet. Founded in 1988, ICT is a non-profit membership organization with offices in Washington D.C., Amsterdam and Berlin.

Thanks to your crucial and invaluable support the US House of Representatives  passed a bill to award His Holiness the Dalai Lama the Congressional Gold Medal, the nation's highest civilian honor. The award is in recognition of the Dalai Lama's advocacy of religious harmony, non-violence, and human rights throughout the world and for his efforts to find a peaceful solution to the Tibet issue though dialogue with the Chinese leadership.

Because of the tremendous outreach undertaken by our supporters, the bill enjoyed broad bipartisan support, with 387 cosponsors drawn from both political parties in the House and Senate, representing more than two-thirds of Congress.

Lodi Gyaltsen Gyari, Special Envoy of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, said: "As a Tibetan, I am deeply touched by this gesture from the United States Congress. Together with the Honorary Citizenship recently bestowed upon His Holiness by the Canadians, this award is an indication of continued international admiration and appreciation of his contribution towards making ours a more harmonious world."

Past recipients of the Gold Medal include George Washington, Pope John Paul II, and other Nobel Peace Laureates, such as Nelson Mandela and Elie Wiesel.

Commenting on the bill, Nancy Pelosi, House Democratic Leader, said: "The Dalai Lama has been a unifying voice for global peace, asking for international support for his non-violent efforts to engage the Chinese government in the struggle for Tibetan freedom. By awarding the Congressional Gold Medal to the Dalai Lama, Congress is sending a crucial signal of support for the ongoing discussions. The United States must continue to be committed to meeting the challenge that Tibet makes to the conscience of the world."

Congratulations to everyone for all their hard work and we look forward to celebrating with you when the Dalai Lama is presented with the Gold Medal, expected to take place during the Dalai Lama's next visit to Washington, DC in October 2007.

Regards,
International Campaign for Tibet

Pray for the peace and happiness of people in all other lands and cultures. Make a commitment to world peace by honoring the earth, honoring its people, and celebrating the unity of the human spirit."
- Masami Saionji, Chairperson of The World Peace Prayer Society

In 1981 the United Nations General Assembly passed resolution 36/67 declaring an International Day of Peace.
In 2001, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a new resolution 55/282 declaring 21 September of each year as the International Day Of Peace.

"May Peace Prevail on Earth!"

THE GREAT INVOCATION

From the point of Light within the Mind of God
Let Light stream forth into the minds of men.
Let Light descend on Earth.

From the point of Love within the Heart of God
Let love stream forth into the hearts of men.
May Christ return to Earth.

From the centre where the Will of God is known
Let purpose guide the little wills of men -
The purpose which the Masters know and serve.

From the centre which we call the race of men
Let the Plan of Love and Light work out
And may it seal the door where evil dwells.

Let Light and Love and Power restore the Plan on Earth.

"The above Invocation, Mantra or Prayer belongs to all Humanity. There are certain central truths and laws that are accepted by all people worldwide, inherently and rightly so, - the truth of a Being of the Highest Power Whom we contribute all things known and unknown, governing, guiding, motivating energies of power which are the just laws of the universe - LOVE." - CJ Wheat

"People of all differing faiths believe in a World Teacher or Saviour, knowing him under such names as the Christ, the Lord Maitreya, the Imam Mahdi, the Bodhisattva, and the Messiah, and these terms are used in some of the Christian, Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist and Jewish versions of the Great Invocation.

Men and women of goodwill throughout the world are using this Invocation in their own language. Will you join them in using the Invocation every day - with thought and dedication?

By using the Invocation and encouraging others to use it, no particular group or organization is sponsored.
It belongs to all humanity." - World Goodwill

"The definition of religion, which will in the future prove of greater accuracy than any yet formulated by the theologians, might be expressed as follows:  Religion is the name given to the invocative appeal of humanity and the evocative response of the
greater Life to that cry." - D.K.

B.  Books and Authors                                                          G

"CHRISTMAS OF THE ANGELS" - by Dora van Gelder Kunz - The perennially popular Christmas booklet by clairvoyant author Dora van Gelder Kunz now is available in this new audiocassette. The tape is professionally narrated with musical scoring. Each year, many people give this charming booklet to friends and family as Christmas cards. Dora's original booklet is included with audio purchase.
"To students of the hidden side of life," Dora writes, "Christmas is a most wonderful reality - a far greater reality than most of us think, since it involves the whole course of Nature and not humanity alone . . .  We must remember that the whole earth is thronged with hosts of superphysical beings, angels and archangels and all the Company of Heaven....."

"INSPIRATION: Your Ultimate Calling" - by Wayne W. Dyer - "There’s a voice in the universe calling each of us to remember our purpose—our reason for being here now, in this world of impermanence. The voice whispers, shouts, and sings to us that this experience of being in form, in space and time, knowing life and death, has meaning. The voice is that of inspiration, which is within each and every one of us. In this groundbreaking book, Dr. Wayne W. Dyer explains how we’ve chosen to enter this world of particles and form. From our place of origin, in ways that we don’t readily comprehend now, we knew what we were coming here to accomplish, and we participated in setting this life process in motion. So why not think this same way?......"

"THE INVISIBLE STRING" - by Patrice Karst - “ 'That’s impossible,' said twins Jeremy & Liza after their Mom told them they’re all connected by this ``thing called an Invisible String. “What kind of string?” They asked with a puzzled look to which Mom replied, “An Invisible String made of love.” That’s where the story begins. A story that teaches of the tie that really binds. Moms (and Pops) feel the tug whenever kids give it; and kids feel the tug that comes right back: the Invisible String reaches from heart to heart. ...."

"SUFISM: Key Concepts In The Practice of Sufism 1" - by M. Fethullah Gülen " 'The heart is the home of God; purify it from whatever is other than Him so that the All-Merciful may descend into His palace at night.' Though simple in outward appearance, Fethullah Gülen is original in thought and action. He embraces all humanity, and is deeply averse to unbelief, injustice, and deviation. His belief and feelings are profound, and his ideas and approach to problems are both wise and rational. A living model of love, ardor, and feeling, he is extraordinarily balanced in his thoughts, acts, and treatment of matters." "SUFISM: Key Concepts In the Practice of Sufism 1"

Project C.U.R.E.
(Commission on Urgent Relief & Equipment)

Connecting Medical Professionals with the World's Most Impoverished People.

Where there is no hope, people perish.
Will you deliver health and hope?

"More than half of the world's population lives below the poverty line, with out access to even the most basic healthcare. More than 11 million children die each year before reaching their fifth birthday. Most of these deaths are preventable.

You can help. While you cannot reach half the world living below poverty, or the 11 million children dying each year, you can affect one, and then another, and then another. Your skills, your time, your energy, it makes all the difference to the one whose hand you touched.

Bhuj, India is still recovering from the devastating earthquake in 2001, which destroyed nearly all the health centers. PROJECT C.U.R.E. is looking for medical professionals and non-medical support staff to assist our host, Dr. Azim Sheth, in meeting the needs of those living in conditions of poverty and disease. On a typical day, Dr. Sheth will treat 70 patients. About half are infected with Malaria.

Dr. Sheth hopes that this clinic will be able to screen patients for malaria and diabetes. He would also like surgeons to perform plastic surgery - attaching prosthesis to amputated patients who were victims of the earthquake. If you are a doctor or nurse, Dr. Sheth would appreciate your time in his clinic. If PROJECT C.U.R.E. receives more than 12 doctors, nurses and non-medical support staff, PROJECT C.U.R.E. may split the team to conduct a clinic in an area that has been heavily hit by flooding this year and is desperate to receive a medical team from PROJECT C.U.R.E.

Program costs for the India trip are $2900 - $3200 and include your airfare, in-country transportation, lodging, meals, water, SOS emergency insurance, one sightseeing excursion, and the C.U.R.E. kit filled with over $3000 worth of medical supplies and equipment."

Answer this call to action and help some of most desperately ill and impoverished people in the world on a trip that will change your life forever.

Knowing that words can create happiness or suffering, I am committed to learn to speak truthfully with words that inspire self-confidence, joy, and hope. I am determined not to spread news that I do not know to be certain and not to criticize or condemn things of which I am not sure.
